Another green Dorset churchyard...
Headstone dated 1767, decorated with a skull, an hourglass, bones and trumpets. Sadly the name is too faint to read:
In Memory of
....... Wife of
Who Departed this life
August... 1767 Aged 36 years
Accept these Tears Mortalitys Relief
And till we share .... forgive our Grief
These little R.... a Stone in Verse receive
Tis all a Husband all a Friend can give.
A memorial to four unknown German soldiers, and a mystery. "All Saints Church, Tarrant Monkton; these wooden crosses mark the burial place of four unknown German soldiers who died in World War I. The church has no records; neither the War Graves Commission nor the German authorities have any knowledge. They lie next to the graves of British soldiers."
